Debut Author Challenge!

Okay, after commenting on two or three posts about the 2013 Debut Author Challenge saying I didn't have the time to do it...I made the mistake of taking a look at the list of books that would be eligible.  And after I jotted down about fifty titles that I thought might interest me, and culling that list on Goodreads...I still have about 40 titles that interest me.  So I figured, twelve of those?  Yeah, I can do that.

Here's my top twelve, as of right now, in order of their release (at least according to Goodreads:)

Splintered by A.G. Howard, out 1/1/13

Level 2 by Lenore Applehans, out 1/15/13

Cinders & Sapphires by Leila Rasheed, out 1/22/13

The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd, out 1/29/12

Strands of Bronze and Gold by Jane Nickerson, out 3/12/13

In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters, out 4/2/13

Taken by Erin Bowman, out 4/16/13
Belle Epoque by Elizabeth Ross, out 6/11/13

Starglass by the very cool Phoebe North, out 7/23/13

Control by the awesome Lydia Kang, out 12/19/13

Also two without covers:

Not a Drop To Drink by Mandy McGinnis, out 9/9/13
Landry Park by Bethany Hagen (can't find a release date at the moment.)

Now, all I need to do is read non-stop three or four days a week, and I should be all set!

  1. We have a few matching choices. :-) I can't wait for some of these, and to read about your opinions of the books not already on my list. I might end up adding some more!

    1. They just all looked too good to resist! Plus, a few of them are by bloggers I've been following for a while, so that's exciting too.

  2. These all sound so good! Some of them are on my list too, and others have been added to my TBR list. I really don't know how I'm going to get to all of the books that I want to read this year between sequels coming out as well as debuts. :)

    1. I've had a few very productive reading days this week--perhaps because I'm procrastinating on the writing front? The guilt of not writing got me to stay away from the silly iPad games and do nothing but read. So, I'm on pace to read about a million books this year and get nothing written at all. Sigh.

  3. Love your list! I had the same problem narrowing my choices down, so I cheated and let my list go crazy. Better to have too many choices than too few though! I'll be eagerly looking forward to your book reviews, especially seeing as I waffled back and forth about a couple of these.

    1. I decided to really lean into my love of historical fiction for this one, so that helped me pick. Picking among books in other genres that were more widely represented was really hard--I wound up mostly with ones that have gotten some early buzz or ones by authors whose blogs I follow, but I'm sure I'll wind up reading and loving others that didn't make the list!

  4. I was given a copy of Level 2 but I haven't had a chance to read it, yet.

  5. I'm excited about nearly all of these myself! I can't wait for Level 2. I'm looking forward to Starglass, too.

  6. I'm looking forward to reading Starglass, for sure, but part of me just wants to stare at it! The cover is so lovely!
