- I'm back in the swing of school, and with two schools and two sets of students and colleagues, I'm using a lot more of my words during the day!
- I'm reading a ton--I'm in two professional development book clubs, running three different student book clubs, and teaching two different novels and a history text book at any given time. At the moment, the novels are Speak and wrapping up Emma, about to transition into Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, plus Northanger Abbey, Pride and Prejudice, and Salinger's Nine Stories for book clubs. All books I love but MAN, the pace is intense. And I got halfway through The Dream Thieves before I had to tear myself away and focus on school reading, so that's calling my name as well! So maybe I'm taking in so many of other people's words that I need some silence in my brain when I'm done.
- I'm simply out of the habit of writing!
So, help me dive back in: tell me the best thing that's happened to you in the last two months!
We've missed you! But it's totally understandable given how crazy busy you are. When you're ready to start easing back into writing, I'll be hear to cheer you on, and with any luck I'll be easing back into writing too! :-)
ReplyDelete"Here" to cheer you on. :P
DeleteThanks! We'll see how this goes--we have a holiday weekend coming up, which is full of travel for a wedding on the one hand but involves a day off on the other hand, so I'm hoping to get school stuff back to a manageable pace and maybe even dip my toes back into my MS...maybe 300 words by the end of Monday? I can totally do that. (Right? Maybe?)
DeleteWelcome back, and I totally understand! It sounds like you have a lot going on. And I love your explanation of "silence in your brain"--it perfectly describes the times when you just need to not produce words: for a book, for a post, for an email. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a LOT to tackle! Those kids are lucky you're so dedicated to teaching though! Also, I kind of want to sit in on one of your classes or book clubs. That must've been rough to put down THE DREAM THIEVES. I loved it and I can't wait to hear what you thought of it. I hope you can find some balance in all your busyness!
ReplyDeleteHmm, as for the best thing that's happened to me in the last couple months, I'm honestly not sure I could narrow it down to one thing and it's kind of been the same old same old lately. Maybe my super helpful beta feedback (thanks again), a couple fun dates with the hubby, and just generally enjoying fall. Have an awesome week, Jess!
Welcome back! Wow, you've certainly been busy. My writing muscle feels a bit rusty too, so here's hoping both of us make a smooth return to it!
ReplyDeleteWOW! You are so busy! But it sounds like it's a good busy. :) And no worries - I used to have weeks where I could barely keep afloat with all that was going on - I still feel like that sometimes and I'm not working the full-time job! Hang in there! And plenty of time to get back in the swing of things!
