Blog Me MAYbe: MAY I ask something about you?

Your question today is short and sweet, but it will help me put together a research reading list for a project I'm working on: Other than books by Stephanie Perkins, what is your favorite YA contemporary novel?

Tricky, right? I knew everyone would just say Anna and the French Kiss or Lola and the Boy Next Door, so those are off-limits. Go!

  1. Will Grayson, Will Grayon. Ther's just something about it... and that something is probably Tiny Cooper.

    1. Love this one! I will put it on my list for further study, under "multiple narrators" and "made of awesome"!

  2. Man, it's tough to narrow it down. I'll limit myself to "Story of a Girl" by Sara Zarr, "The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks" by E Lockhart, and "Feeling Sorry for Celia" by Jaclyn Moriarty (which is kind of wacky but still about real teens). I love contemporary YA novels in general; really curious to see what everyone's favorites are!

    1. Ooooh, more Sara Zarr! I just read and *loved* HOW TO SAVE A LIFE, so I'll definitely check out STORY OF A GIRL. I also really liked Frankie and I'm planning to read some more E. Lockhart. Hadn't heard of FEELING SORRY FOR CELIA, so thanks for putting something totally new on my radar!

  3. I am a huge fan of contemporary books, so this is a really hard question for me. :P I can narrow it down to favorite contemporary AUTHORS, but specific books? IMPOSSIBLE.
My favorite authors are Sarah Dessen, John Green, and Maureen Johnson. I've read and loved every book they've written, and that's as far as I can narrow it down.
(Also, please don't even get me started on how much I love ANNA and LOLA. Stephanie Perkins is a genius.)

    1. I've enjoyed some Sarah Dessen from time to time, and I think at this point I've read the entire John Green catalogue...but Maureen Johnson's books are all, happily, in my reading future. I picked up a few when there was a deal at B&N but I'm not sure where to start--would you say that one of her books stands out to you?

    2. I think Thirteen Little Blue Envelopes is a good place to start. It was the first Maureen Johnson book I read, and it might even be my favorite. :)
